Elmo Daley Educator and Poet 04/02/1911 - 07/02/2007 Vadis Elmo Daley, a long time resident of Auburn and Roseville, taught writing, literature, and poetry for forty-six years at Sierra College in Auburn and Rocklin where he influenced many students and inspired a number of future English teachers. He was born in Olive, Okla. and received a B.A. and M.A. in English from the University of Oklahoma. Elmo married Helen Comba in 1940. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was an avid collector of butterflies and wildflowers. After retirement he and Helen traveled and lived overseas. In his later years, visitors to his home were always surrounded by a profusion of his flowers. A book of his poetry, The Islands of My Inland Seas, was published in 2006. Mr. Daley is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen; his brother, Gene, his sister, Gayle; his three children and their spouses, Kevin and Mary Alice Daley, Sean Daley and Marie Braure, Katie and Sam Wlasiuk; his four grandchildren, Leda and Gregory Wlasiuk, Carol Hockridge and husband Mark, Matthew Daley; and one great-grandson, Ethan Hockridge.
