Born in Arkansas City. KS. Buster grew up near Locust Grove, OK. He graduated from Bacone Jr. College, Northeastern Univ and the Univ of Oklahoma with degrees in Education and Accounting. He served as high-school principal at Milfay, OK. He then served in the IRS as a tax auditor and instructor in Tulsa, OKC, Dallas, and Chicago. He established Grass Accounting in Bethany, OK where he practiced for 28 years. Buster served in the US Army and the Okla Air National Guard, serving as a Sergeant in Japan and Korea in the Korean War. He was also an auditor for the USAF. Western Swing music was his passion, in the style of Bob Wills and Lowe Stokes. Buster played the fiddle, teaching himself from the age of 9. Buster was the National Cherokee Champion Fiddler in 1979, amongst other titles. In 1976, Buster and his cousin Jerry Hart were selected by the Smithsonian Institution to entertain on the Mall in Washington, D.C. in the Bicentennial celebration of the Western Swing genre of American folk music. Their tape is on file in the Library of Congress. Most recently, Buster played with Tulsa's own Round Up Boys, playing for various civic events, Nelson's Buffeteria and area nursing homes. He was a member of Toastmasters, OKC Exchange Club, OK Public Accounting Assoc. OK Fiddlers' Association. Buster enjoyed nature and studying the Bible. He was a member of the Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife Margaret Unger Grass; sister Nadine Essary Miller of Winslow, AZ; children Robert Grass, engineer, & wife Tatiana, Marilyn Grass Culp, physician, & husband Brian, of Tulsa, Gail Grass, artist & student at USAO, Chickasha. Grandchildren Victor Ignatov Grass, Phillip & Patrick Culp, Colleen Wright. Preceded in death by mother Ethel Grass Spencer; father Benjamin Grass; brother Luther Grass & sister Lorene Grass Bateman. Interment Ft. Gibson National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Gideon's Bibles or MD Anderson Cancer Center.
