Garrett Jr., born Nov. 4, 1920 in Purcell, OK to Carl C. and Cecelia Garrett, died on Dec. 1, 2002 at his home in Yukon, OK after a courageous battle with cancer. After his graduation from Cushing, OK High School in 1940, he went to work for the Santa Fe Railroad. In 1942 he joined the Air Force. While Carl was stationed at the air base in Liberal, KS he met Maxine Elledge of Meade, KS and was married Sept. 11, 1945 at St. Anthony's Catholic Rectory in Fowler, KS. He was sent to Fresno, CA and was discharged in 1946. He then resumed his work with the Santa Fe and lived in Ponca City, OK until 1950. He then moved his family to Guthrie, OK and remained there until 1968 when he was transferred to Topeka, KS for two years. He was then sent to La Junta, CO where he was Area Supervisor of Communications for 22 years. He retired as a communications electronic engineer as area supervisor of communications on July 1, 1982 after 42 years of service. Carl was active in the Knights of Columbus and was a 4th degree Knight. He was Grand Knight in Guthrie, OK. He was a member of St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon, OK. He was at his death a six-year president of the NARV unit 40. Carl and his wife also enjoyed traveling with the Good Sam Club of which he had served as president and the Wally Bynum Air Stream Club and was Colorado Unit President for a year. He was also a 23-year member of the Elks. Carl enjoyed playing golf and helping with the Special Olympics. He was an electronics buff and in his later years enjoyed his computer. His wife of 57 years Maxine in Yukon, OK and three daughters survives Carl, Carolyn Lowe of Chanute, KS, Debbie Lenhart Lindley of Yukon, OK and Beverly Gooch of Columbia, SC. He has seven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren and one brother, Bob Garrett of Sand Springs, OK and many nieces and nephews. His parents preceded his passing. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, Dec. 5, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John Nepomuk Catholic Church in Yukon, OK. In lieu of flowers a contribution may be made to St. John's Scholarship Fund in Carl's name and may be left at the church.
