'Pete' Hubbard James W. "Pete" Hubbard was born Jan. 12, 1925 in Sapulpa and lived here most of his life. He died on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006 in St. John Medical Center in Tulsa. He was the son of the late J.B. Hubbard and Mary Jo (Ricketts) Hubbard, longtime Sapulpa residents. He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1942 and attended Oklahoma Military Academy in Claremore, Oklahoma. He served in the U.S. Army in Europe during World War II in active combat duty before during and after the Battle of the Bulge. Ironically he was in combat as an infantryman in the same area of Europe that his father was in combat in World War I 26 years earlier. Following this, he attended and graduated from Oklahoma A&M College in 1949 with a degree in industrial engineering. During the Korean War he was recalled to Active duty to train soldiers in combat infantry tactics. He was an engineer with American Airlines until his retirement. Retirement activities involved his active participation in the development of the Sapulpa Historical Museum. He was quite active in the study of Sapulpa and Oklahoma history and was affectionately referred to as "Mr. History” in museums from all over the state. He was fundamental in the restoration of the streetcar used in the Sapulpa–Tulsa Interurban and recently was honored with the dedication of the Jim Hubbard Plaza where the streetcar is on display, as well as a "Jim Hubbard Day" in Sapulpa. He will be sorely missed by his family and friends. Martha Hubbard Thomason, of Sun City, Ariz., is his only survivor of the immediate family. He is also survived by his brother-in-law, Howard C. Thomason, his nephew John B. Thomason, of Joplin, Mo; his niece Anne Pyles and her husband, David, of Norman, Okla.; great-nephew Tony Pyles and his wife, Rose, of Norman, Okla., great-niece Katy Pyles, of Chicago, Ill., and great-niece Jenny Pyles, of Norman. Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at the United Methodist Church of Sapulpa. Burial will follow at Green Hill Memorial Gardens, Garden of Honor in Sapulpa. The family has chosen to entrust the care of the services to the directors at Green Hill Funeral Home.
