All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Idaho State Veterns Cemetery--Boise ID Kennedy, Robert Gene Robert Gene Kennedy passed away in his sleep early Friday morning at his home in Meridian. Born in 1925, in Oilton, Okla. to Elmer and Myrtle Kennedy, Robert was the third son of six children. The family moved to Kermit, Texas in 1937. Bobby, who attended Kermit High School was President of his Senior Class, Captain of the Basketball team, was a member of the All District Football Squad, and also the Track Team. He was voted Campus Favorite by the student body for the 1943-44 school year. He graduated in 1944 with many scholastic and athletic honors. He joined the U.S. Army and volunteered for paratrooper training. After basic training, and jump school, he was assigned to the 508th P.I.R of the 82nd Airborne Division in Europe. He served his Country in England, France, Holland, Belgium, and Germany. Bearer of C.I.B. and promoted to Corporal, he was also a member of General Eisenhower's Frankfort Honor Guard. After discharge, he married the love of his life, Sara Ruth Brazil of LaGrange, Ga. They returned to Kermit, where his first son was born. He received a football scholarship to Sul Ross State College at Alpine, Texas, and played in the 1949 Tangerine Bowl. He graduated from Sul Ross in 1952, and began his education career as a Coach in McCamey, Texas. He moved his family to Odessa, Texas, where his three other children were born, to Coach and head the Athletic Dept. The family moved to Southern California, where Bob was a History teacher, Coach, and Athletic Director for 30 years. He retired in 1991, and moved to Idaho in 1996. He was an occasional substitute teacher and was enjoying his later years. He fell ill and succumbed to Leukemia, at the age of 81. He was preceded in death by his parents; Elmer (Jack), and Myrtle, and by his older brother Curtis. He is survived by his wife Sara, and their four children, John Robert, Kathryn Ann, Ron Wayne, and Cheryl Lynn, and nine grandchildren, Heath, Korina, Zane, Kylee, Cole, Daniel, Jaryd, Chase, Shelby, and his brothers Charles, Jack, and Ken, and his sister Mildred. Viewing will be held on Sunday, May 6, 2007 from 8 to 10 a.m. at Meridians Chapel of the Chimes Funeral Home (105 E. Carlton Ave., Meridian; 888-4454). Interment at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery is pending and will be announced later this week. Donations in his memory in lieu of flowers can be made to your local disabled veteran's association.
