McCormick passed from this life Feb. 4, 2006 at the age of 86. He was born March 18, 1919 in Kiefer to the Revs. Ben F. and Anna J. McCormick. He was baptized at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Water and Thompson Streets in 1929 along with his family, where his membership remained until his death. John was a veteran of World War II, serving with the SeaBees branch of the Navy in the South Pacific. He was a carpenter, mechanic and an engineer. He could design and build anything he chose. He worked for Gulf Oil Co., Pure Oil Co., Tidewater Oil Co. and was vice president of the Architectural Division of Southwest Porcelain Steel in Sand Springs at the time of his retirement in 1972. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church for numerous years and served on various committees, including chairman of the Finance Committee and Charge Lay Leader. He was very dedicated to his wife and family and will be missed by all. He was preceded in death by: his mother and father; two sisters, Grace Scott and Thelma Wiggins; one brother, Robert L. McCormick; and one granddaughter, Kimberly McCormick. He is survived by: his wife of 66 years, LaVerne B. McCormick; three sons, John L. McCormick and wife Grace, Robert E. McCormick and wife Belinda, and Steven McCormick and wife Salli; sisters Viola Robertson and Dorothy Taylor and her husband Bud; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 7, 2006 at the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Darryl Owen officiating. Interment will be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens. Casketbearers will be Kevin McCormick, Steve McCormick Jr., John Robert McCormick, J.K. McCormick, Bryan Sinor, Cory Sinor and Ryan Mundy. Services are under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.
