All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Southwest Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Porter Sr., Archie Lee Archie Lee Porter, Sr. Feb. 2, 1934 - Aug. 19, 2007 Services Entrusted to: Beloved Care Funeral Services Archie Lee Porter, Sr. 73, of Bakersfield, California, was born on February 2, 1934, in Sapulpa, Oklahoma and passed away August 19, 2007, in Bakersfield. Funeral services honoring his life will be held Saturday, August 25, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., at St. John Missionary Baptist Church, 1300 East Brundage Lane, Bakersfield. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Southwest, (Panama Lane). Visitation will begin Friday, August 24, 2007, from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. An hour of Meditation will follow from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Beloved Care Funeral Services 115 - 18th Street, Bakersfield. In 1952 he joined the Air Force. Upon his release from the Air Force he became a Psychiatric Technician for Kern Medical Center, which is now The Kern County Mental Health Department. After 30 years of service he retired, six months later he became very restless and decided to go back to work. He worked for Gordon Special Services as a crossing guard at Mount Vernon Elementary until his passing. Archie was preceded in death by his father, John Shelby- Porter; stepfather, Marcellus Gordon. He is survived by his loving wife, Joy "Joyce" Porter; one son, Archie Jr.; three daughters, Brenda, Barbara and Karen Porter, all of Bakersfield; his loving mother, Luella Gordon of Washington State; one brother, Gordie Wayne Gordon of Bakersfield; one sister, Renee Hailey of Washington State; four grandchildren, Cory Moore, Curtis Porter, Terriva Porter and Tiffani Moore; three great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, and a host of family and friends.
