Spalding Shafner, of Beavercreek, OH, 95, passed away on December 29, 2006 at the Otterbein Lebanon Retirement Community. She was born to the late William E. and Estella ( McKinney) Spalding in Kiefer, OK. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edward C. Shafner; son, Dale E. Shafner; sisters, Gertrude Sachs, Margaret Leibold and daughter in-law, Jackie Shafner. She is survived by three sons, Douglas C. (Tanya) Shafner, Darrell W. (Vicki) Shafner, Dennis B. (Jolene) Shafner; 20 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, two great- great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Emma had retired from Rike's after 26 years. She was an accomplished poet, member of the Ohio Poetry Society and a member of St Luke Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on January 2, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke Catholic Church, 1440 N. Fairfield Road, Beavercreek, Ohio, with Father Terry Schneider as celebrant. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the TOBIAS FUNERAL HOME-BEAVERCREEK CHAPEL, 3970 Dayton- Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road from 2-5 p.m. on Monday January 1, 2007.
