All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Memorial Park Cemetery--Edmond OK Smith, Wayne Cecil Wayne Cecil Smith was born October 29, 1929 to Frank and Jessie Smith near Milfay, OK. He died Tuesday, August 27, 2002, at his home in Edmond, OK, after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Graduated from Milfey High School in 1947, he attended Oklahoma A&M College (OSU) where at graduation he received an award for being The Outstanding Student in Technical Training in 1953. Wayne was a veteran of the Korean War. He was a 32nd Degree Mason of the Britton Lodge. In 1979, installed as worthy patron Britton chapter #432 order of the Eastern Star. Wayne worked for several prominent companies as an engineer specializing in air conditioning and refrigeration including Carrier and Honeywell. In 1956, Wayne joined Governair Corporton where he remained until retirement in 1993. Wayne played a major role in shaping Governair into the multi- million manufacturer it has become, serving in many capacities from Marketing Manager to Vice President of Engineering and Computer Technology. Those who worked with him harbored many fond memories of his generosity and gentle good humor. Wayne was also instrumental in building the Central Oklahoma Chapter of ASHRAE (American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers) into one of the most prominent in the nation, serving as Treasurer, President, and Regional Vice Chairman of Membership at various times. He was given the award of merit, the prestigious Golden Gavel Award and made an honorary lifetime member of ASHRAE and inducted into the Central Oklahoma Chapter Hall of Fame. Wayne was a member Of the New Covenant United Methodist Church in Edmond, OK. He became familiar to many in the Edmond area as he pursued his second vocation selling real estate, after his retirement in 1993. He is survived by Twyla, his wife of 49 years, 2 daughters, Becki Smith, and Debbie Haas and husband Don, granddaughter Rachel Smith, grandson Matt Smith all of Edmond, nephew Kenneth Smith and wife Barbara, of Mannford, OK, niece Marilyn Willsey and husband Jim of Sand Springs, OK, mother-in- law Bessie Hunt of Norman, OK, brother-in law Gary Hunt and wife Quyen and their son Chris of The Colony, TX, sister in-law Evelyn Spears and husband E.R. of Stroud, OK. Special thanks to New Covenant United Methodist Church and Hospice of Oklahoma County. Special visitation with Friends and Family from 6:00 - 8:00 P.M. at Baggerley Funeral Home on Friday, August 30th, 930 S. Broadway, Edmond, OK. Services for Wayne will be Saturday, August 31, 2002, 10:00 A.M., at New Covenant United Methodist Church, 1700 S. Bryant, Edmond, OK. Reverend Greg Shaw officiating.
