Graveside service: 10 a.m. Monday, June 20, in Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio. Memorial service: 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 21, at Shady Oaks Baptist Church in Hurst. Memorials: In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Shrine Hospital Burn Center in Houston. Margaret Merle Turmes was born Sept. 25, 1924, in Drumright, Okla., and had resided in the Fort Worth area for 60 years. She received her B.A. from Texas Wesleyan University. She was past worthy matron of Keystone 9 of the Eastern Star and past high priestess for the Nyanca Court 34, LO.S.N.A. She was head of the Dxie Polka Kings, a polka band, and Margaret Turmes and her High Hatters, a dance band. She was an accomplished musician. She was one of the designers of the wiring and flight systems for the B-36 bomber built at General Dynamics (Convair) in Fort Worth. She was active in her labor union while at Convair and was the president for several years. She was a certified dental assistant and a bookkeeper at her husband's dental office. She taught business and was the admissions officer of Brantley-Draughon Business School in Fort Worth. She also taught in the school system and, after retirement, substituted in the Fort Worth area. She was preceded in death by husband, Dr. Nicolas A. Turmes Sr. Survivors: Sons, John Turmes and wife, Gloria of Bedford and Nick Turmes Jr. and wife, Susie of Plantation, Fla.; grandchildren, Victor Turmes of Kountze, Eric Turmes of Arlington and Nick Turmes III and Jackie Turmes of Plantation, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Brooke Turmes and Brittany Turmes of Kountze.
