She was born on Wednesday, March 24, 1926 in Bristow, Oklahoma to O.W. & Elizabeth Hagee Johnston. Joy grew up in the Tuskegee area. She received her education in the Bristow & Slick area, graduating from Slick High School in 1943. After graduation, she taught school for a while and attended Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. She met, fell in love, and married Arthur E. Watson on December 2, 1944 in Bristow, Oklahoma. After they married, they moved from Bristow to Council Hill, Oklahoma where she became a homemaker, helping Arthur farm and raise their family. Joy was a member of First Assembly of God Church. She loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed fishing & camping. She spent summers in Colorado and winters in Corpus Christi, Texas. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, O.W. & Elizabeth Johnston; and her brother, O.W. Johnston, Jr. Joy is lovingly survived by her husband of 61 years, Arthur of the home; sons, Gary and his wife Shirlene, of Jenks, Dana & Connie Jo, of Council Hill; grandchildren Julie Watson, of Chicago, Ginger Miles and her husband Rob of Edmond, Darren and his wife Julie, Damon and his wife Robyn & Dustin and his wife, Amy all of Council Hill. Great-grandchildren, Dillon & Gracie, Mazie & Ella Watson, Jake & Joe Miles; Sisters, Vernice Walker, of Okemah, Mary Ross and her husband Gene, of Boynton, & Darlene Goines and her husband Tom, of Broken Arrow. A celebration of Joy’s life will be held at 2:00 PM, Monday, October 23, 2006, First Assembly of God of Checotah with Reverend Tom Goines & Reverend Paul Butler officiating. Committal prayers and interment will follow in Council Hill Cemetery with Darren, Damon, Dustin Watson, Rob Miles, Kenneth Barkley, Lloyd Fuzzell, Kevin Goines, Kelly Goines serving as casket bearers. Honorary casket bearer will be William E. Walker.
