All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== HENRY WATCHORN Published on September 21, 1994 The Santa Rosa Press Democrat Henry James Watchorn, a retired California Highway Patrol officer, died Saturday at a Santa Rosa hospital after battling leukemia. He was 70. Born in Sapulpa, Okla., where his father was the first mayor, Watchorn worked on the family's farm before serving in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He met his wife, Mary Higgs Watchorn, in Oakland while working as a plainclothes detective in the juvenile division for the Oakland Police Department. She was a nurse at Highland Hospital. After transferring to the CHP, he served in Los Angeles, the Bay Area and then in Santa Rosa before retiring in 1971 after 25 years with the CHP. Watchorn was a master gardener. A golfer, he was a member of Wikiup and Bennett Valley Senior Golf Clubs. He also was a member of the California Highway Patrol Retirees Association, Local 1010, and the California State Employees Association. Besides his wife of 45 years, he is survived by his daughters, Kathy "K.C." Grigsby of Calistoga, and Cynthia Watchorn-Mau of Alameda; son, Michael Watchorn of Sebastopol; brother, Thomas Watchorn; and half-sister, Edith Mayes, both of Huntersville, N.C.; five grandchildren; and two step- grandchildren. Friends may call at Daniels Chapel of the Roses in Santa Rosa from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. today. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel. Burial will be at Santa Rosa Memorial Park.
