Submitted by: Frances Fletcher Brewer hbrewer@gte.net ------------------------------------------------------------------------- The Fletchers (Moorewood, Putnam, Carnagie and Greer County) and the Ashley's (Samsville, Butler and Clinton) have been residents of Custer County for over 100 years, beginning with John Wesley Ashley who helped build Samsville, which I understand is at the bottom of Foss Res. The Fletchers and Ashley's should be listed in the surname list, along with their contemporaries. Clinton and Butler are so small, I am sure that there are quite a lot of persons who knew/ know them and would be glad to see there names on the web and for posterity. I have quite a lot of information and would be glad to share if you will tell me how to post the information. Frances Fletcher Brewer, dau of Francis Leonidas Fletcher (born at Putnam) and Lydia Lorene Ashley (born in Wheeler, Tx, but raised at Samsville and Butler)The Fletcher family place was located at the ranch belonging to James Clarence Fletcher in Moorewood. They raised horses for the calvary. My mother returned to Clinton in the early 80's from Ca. She lived a few blocks from town and would walk to First Baptist Church, where she was a memeber of the seniors group. She lived there for a number of years. She has developed alzheimers and is now in a resthome. However, she is ninety or so. Yes, Mom and Dad were married cousins. ASHLEY, John Samuel and Lenora Belle (FLETCHER) ASHLEY m.
