Funeral: 11 a.m. Monday at Freedom Church in Glen Rose. Burial: 11 a.m. Thursday in North Lawn Cemetery in Dumas. Charley Helms was born July 6, 1919, in Butler, Okla., to Albert and Ethel Marvin Helms. He was a World War II Army veteran and the recipient of the Silver Star Citation and Purple Heart. After the war, he worked as a building contractor. He married Marilyn Stinson on Feb. 14, 1986, in Glen Rose. He was a hard-working person all his life and devoted to his Lord Jesus and his family. He was the manager of Byron Stinson's Car Wash for 10 years and had lived in Glen Rose for 19 years. He was a member of Freedom Church. Mr. Helms was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Margie, in 1984; four brothers and a sister. Survivors: Wife, Marilyn Helms of Glen Rose; daughters, LaRue Lancaster of Comanche, Okla., Edna Mae Powers of Graham, Patsy Langford and Cynthia Fegley, both of Amarillo; stepsons, David Peck of Moore, Okla., Rick Peck of Duncan, Okla. and Byron Stinson of Glen Rose; stepdaughter, Billie Ann Ivy of Clyde; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; 12 stepgrandchildren; 15 stepgreatgrandchildren; sister, Geraldine Hipkins of St. Markus, Calif.; brothers, Larry Helms of Victorville, Calif. and Jimmy Helms of Benson, N.C.; and special friends, Velda Froman of Aledo and Carla Goodwin of Glen Rose.
