Shaffer, 83, of Clinton, died Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2006, in the Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City. He was born May 30, 1923, to John and Lydia (Decker) Shaffer in Taloga. He came to Clinton from Taloga when he was 7 years old. He attended Clinton Public Schools and graduated from Clinton High School in 1941. He enlisted in the U.S. Army soon after high school and served during WWII. He was trained in the medical field and served until he was honorably discharged in 1944. He returned to Clinton and started his career with Oklahoma General Hospital. He married Maxine Hale on Feb. 24, 1946, in Kingfisher. The couple made their home in Clinton where he continued his employment as a lab technician and X-ray technician. He later transferred to the new Clinton Regional Hospital and retired in 1994. He started a business at his home doing small engine repair and retired again in 1999. He continued to work in his shop doing odd jobs for his family as long as his health permitted. Within the past two weeks the Shaffer's had moved to Mustang to be close to family. He is survived by his wife Maxine of Mustang; daughter, Beverly Joann Vanloon of Clinton; two sons, Dennis Shaffer and wife Donna of Mustang, and Terry Shaffer and wife Kathy of Altus; seven grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. The family will greet guests from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home of Clinton. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday in the First United Methodist Church, officiated by the Rev. Larry Holder. Burial will conclude in the Clinton Cemetery under the direction of Kiesau-Lee Funeral Home.
