She was born August 15, 1905 in Indian Territory. She was a member of the Delaware Baptist Church for 50 years. She was honored with a "Charter Membership" award by her church family in 1985. Laura married Lucian Black on September 21, 1921. She and Lucian made their home here in Delaware County. She had been a cook in both Grove and Jay and had worked at Simmoms Chicken Plant. Laura was blessed with 10 children, 25 grandchildren, 51 great-grand- children, and 19 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lucian, sons Charles and Claude, daughters Doris and Dora Mae. She is survived by six daughters, Nell Rose Pearson of Pryor, Virginia Elliott of Fairland, Lucille Killion, Joy Pair and Geraldine Dixon of Grove and Yvonne Cunningham of Jay and their families. Laura was a gracious, kind and precious lady. She will be greatly missed by her family and a host of relatives and friends. Services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, October 20, at the Delaware Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Kingfisher and Rev. Ken Oakley officiating. Interment was in Butler Cemetery. Arrangements were under the direction of the Worley-Luginbuel Funeral Home in Grove. * Notes: Mrs. BLACK was born Laura Jane INLOW, one of eight children of Thomas Jefferson INLOW and Nancy V. KEEN (INLOW). She had one brother, William Sylvester INLOW, and six sisters, Margaret Fannie INLOW (STEEN), Elmira INLOW (STEEN), Susan INLOW (THOMASON), Myrtle INLOW (KEENE), Carrie INLOW (VILES), and Lela INLOW (CAUDILL). Laura's father, Thomas J. INLOW, was a member of the Anti-Horse Thief Association in Indian Territory/Oklahoma. Laura's grandparents were Julia Susan PADEN and Sylvester INLOW who were both born in the Cherokee Nation East. When her grandfather was only one year old, he and his parents (Phillip INLOW & Elizabeth MILLER) were among the Cherokee who came to Indian Territory on the Trail of Tears, departing from Mouse Creek, TN in 1838. Sylvester and Phillip INLOW were both members of Gen. Stand Watie's Regiment of Confederate Cherokee Mounted Rifles during the Civil War.
