All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Fairview Cemetery--Coffeyville KS The Grove Daily Sun 18 Jan 2007 Charles Smith Baldwin 1919-2006 GROVE, Okla. - Charles “Charlie” Smith Baldwin of Grove, died Sunday July 2, 2006 at the Hillcrest Specialty Hospital at Tulsa, Okla. He was 87. Charlie was born April 18, 1919 to William and Ida (Smith) Baldwin at Oblong, Ill. He graduated high school at Ira-Ann, Texas. He served in the Unites States Army during World War II as a Staff Sergeant in the Philippines. He started his railroad career at Texas-Pacific Railroad and retired from Union Pacific Railroad at Coffeyville, Kan. as a General Superintendent. Charlie was married to his previous wife, Ruth Constance White Baldwin for over 51 years. In May of 1993 he married Helen Jo Turner Yelton Baldwin at the Washington Church in Rogers County. Charlie enjoyed to fish and do wood working. He was an Eagle Scout and loved jazz music. He had his own jazz band in college and directed the Boy Scout Band. He was a member of the American Legion and the First Baptist Church in Grove. He was preceded in death by: his parents; an infant brother, William Baldwin; and one sister, Helen Black. Survivors include his wife Helen Jo Baldwin of Grove; four children, Karen Argo of Omaha, Neb., Cheryl Dixon and husband Gerald of Chattanooga, Tenn., Charles “Chuck” Baldwin, Jr. of Abilene, Texas, and William “Bill” F. Baldwin and wife Karen of Delaware, Okla.; three step-children, Shari Yelton Roebuck and husband Melvin of Nowata, Okla., Marci Yelton Postrach and husband Chris of Bartlesville, Okla. and David Turner Yelton of Trophy Club, Texas; three sisters, Mary Alice Baldwin of Lubbock, Texas, Margaret Satterfield of Frederick, Md., and Kay Doyle of Donnel, Texas; nine grandchildren, Charles F. Baldwin, William F. Baldwin, Josh Baldwin, Caleb Baldwin, Michelle D. Howell, Rachel D. Irwin, Jonathan Dixon, Timothy Dixon, and Darrell Scott Argo; one great grandson, Cael Austin Howell; five step-grandchildren, Holly Roebuck Nichols, William Yelton, Andrew Yelton, Patricia Postrach, and Melissa Postrach. Funeral services were at 11 a.m., Wednesday July 5, at the First Baptist Church in Grove. Rev. James Wilder and Rev. Derrick Crawford officiated. Graveside services were at 3 p.m. on Wednesday at the Fairview Cemetery at Coffeyville, Kan. Memorial contributions may be made to the Baptist Children Home in Owasso, Okla.
