Drake The graveside service for Samuel G. Drake will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Eagle Point National Cemetery. Mr. Drake, 81, of Grants Pass, died Saturday (March 29, 2003) at his home. He was born Aug. 24, 1921, in Delaware County, Okla. On Sept. 28, 1946, in Reno, Nev., he married Louise Welch, who survives. Mr. Drake was an engineer at Hercules Inc., until his retirement in 1975. He moved to Selma in 1975 from Hercules, Calif., and to Grants Pass in 2000. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Mr. Drake was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, a life member of OCAW International Union Martinez Local 1-5, and the Southern Oregon Indian Center. He enjoyed woodcrafts, bird watching and feeding, traveling and camping, gardening and flowers, helping people and spending time with his family. Survivors, in addition to his wife, include four daughters, Sheila Fahnholz, Kelseyville, Calif., Denise Smith, Vacaville, Calif., Myrtle Adams, Folsom, Calif., and Wauhilla Wilson, Grants Pass; a brother, Clarence Drake, Pryor, Okla.; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
