All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Private Cemetery--Pocatello ID Ekiss, LeRoy POCATELLO - LeRoy George Ekiss, age 72, died February 27, 2007, at the Pocatello Veterans Home. He was of Cherokee descent. He was born to Sallie Ann and Ameyel Ekiss near Flint, Oklahoma. His family moved to Ellensburg, Washington, in 1943. LeRoy graduated from Kittitas High School in 1955. He served in the Army both in the U.S. and overseas. He married the love of his life, Leah Daughtry, on October 1, 1971. Together they ran Ekiss Market in Springfield, Idaho for many years. LeRoy served on the volunteer fire department there. He was a Bingham County commissioner for docks and water works, a sponsor for the Tendoy Boy Scouts Council and a member of the Lions Club. Through his efforts, Springfield was able to update their city water systems. LeRoy also sponsored the annual "Springfield Days" event during his residence there. He and his wife explored most of the lower half of Idaho's back roads, enjoying many unique experiences. LeRoy was an avid fisherman, gardener, opal buff (hunted, cut and set them), and was an artifact collector. He is survived by his sister, Julie Ann; his nieces, Sharon Rusch and Judy Paul and their families in Washington; as well as by four stepchildren, Ava Fuger, John Daughtry, Rhonda Iverson and Gay Ann Wartenbee and their families in Idaho. He will be missed by his family and many friends, which includes his good fishing buddy, Bill Peters, and by his pocket beagle, "Lilly." He will be laid to rest on his favorite mountain with his wife, Leah.
