Grunden 1916 - 2005 MIAMI, Okla. -- Ruby L. Grunden, long-time Afton resident, died at Osborne Care and Rehab Center in Miami on Saturday, February 12, 2005 after a lengthy illness. She was 88. Mrs. Grunden was born October 3, 1916 in Grove, Okla. to James and Maggie (Hinds) Petty. She attended school at Bernice. She married Richard Grunden on November 6, 1939, and he preceded her in death on July 22, 1971. She had been self-employed. She moved to Afton in 1934 from Grove. She was a member of the First Christian Church of Afton, the Afton Rebekah Lodge, and the Order of the Eastern Star in Afton. She is survived by a son and his wife, Kenneth and Sharon Grunden of Wichita; two daughters, Joyce Stone and husband Keith of Fairland, and Lois Blair of Surprise, Ariz.; five grandchildren, Jamey (Cheek) Rexroat, Kathy (Cheek) Bowers, Becky (Grunden) Bloomquist, Kendra (Grunden) Anderson, and Christopher Blair; seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Reba Nelson; brothers Arley Petty, Alva Petty, and James Petty; and half brothers Clarence Petty and George Petty. A funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, February 16, 2005 at the First Christian Church of Afton with Minister Lee Williams officiating. Pallbearers will be Christopher Blair, Casey Bowers, Jerod Bowers, Tyson Rexroat, Sloan Rexroat, and Bryce Anderson. Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Afton. A visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at the First Christian Church. The family has requested that donations be made to Mt. Hope Perpetual care, First Christian Church, or Integris Hospice in lieu of flowers.
