All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Dickson Cemetery--Cherokee City AR The Grove Sun Daily Troy Al Hurt 1921-2005 COLCORD, Okla. - Troy Al Hurt, 83, lifetime resident of Colcord, Okla., died February 21, 2005, at his home. Born April 10, 1921 at Shamrock, Okla., he was the son of Payton and Grace Kelly Hurt. He entered the Civilian Conservation Corps at Pryor, Okla. on April 13, 1939 at the age of eighteen, and was honorably discharged March 31, 1941. He then entered the Army on October 30, 1942. After serving in Hawaii and Southern France, he was wounded in the Philippines with General McArthur's invasion forces and was awarded the Purple Heart, Asiatic Pacific Medal with one Bronze Battle Star, Philippine Liberation Ribbon and Lapel Button. He was honorably discharged on August 21, 1945. On August 18, 1959 he went to work at Plus Poultry, which later became Simmon's Industries, Siloam Springs, Ark. He retired from Simmon's Industries on September 1, 1999 after 40 years of faithful service, ten years of which with perfect attendance. He married Marie Marshall on May 17, 1952 at Huntsville, Ark. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Barney Hurt and Junior Hurt, and two infant siblings. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Marie of the home; two daughters, Linda King and husband Carwin of Colcord, and Teresa Ellis and husband Jack of Colcord; three grandchildren, Carlinda Hood and husband Wes of Stillwater, Okla., Cameron King and Jacob Ellis of Colcord; three brothers, Roy Hurt and wife Jean, Glen Hurt and wife Sue and Marvin Hurt, all of Colcord; three sisters, Audrey Wooten, Joyce Hurt, of Colcord and Barbara Jackson and husband Paul of Tulsa, Okla., and numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, February 24, 2005, at Wasson Memorial Chapel with Mr. Ed Billups and Wilks Harper officiating. Burial will follow at Dickson Cemetery near Cherokee City, Ark. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, February 23, 2005, at Wasson Funeral Home, Siloam Springs, Ark.
