All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Mountain View Cemetery--Oakland CA Nelsen, Hildred "Judy" HILDRED "JUDY" NELSEN AUGUST 19, 1912 - APRIL 27, 2007 A resident of San Leandro, CA for 60 years, Judy, as she was known by family and friends, passed away April 27, 2007 at the age of 94 in Kaiser/Permenente Hospital at Hayward, CA. She was born in Zena, Oklahoma on August 19, 1912 where her ancestors had come from Georgia to Indian Territory on the Trail of Tears. She was preceded in death by her husband Al Nelsen and daughter Sherill Joy Nelsen. She is survived by her sister Ruth Jean Peterson and husband Gene Peterson of Sonora, CA and a brother Orval Wetzel of Carlsbad, CA. Three nieces Cynthia Peterson, Kensington, CA; Patty Clarke, Carlsbad, CA; and Terry Miller, Lake Forest, CA. Five nephews, Steven Peterson, Susanville, CA; Randy Wetzel, Clovis, CA; Michael Wetzel, Carlsbad, CA; Bob Wetzel, Costa Mesa, CA; Bill Wetzel, Huntington Beach, CA; and several grand nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, San Leandro, Ladies of the Aahmes, Retired Kaiser (Hayward) Employees Club, and a past member of the Eastern Star Golden Wave Chapter #103, San Leandro, CA. Judy loved cooking and while her daughter Sherry was growing up Judy tested recipes in her home for 5 years for Martha Meade, so she could be a stay-at-home mother and be active in her daughter's activities. Her daughter Sherry was 16 when she died of Leukemia. She was a senior at San Leandro High School. Judy started her career with Kaiser/Permenente in the clinic in San Leandro on May 1, 1953 as a receptionist. She had taken her daughter Sherry to a Well Baby Clinic there, when Kaiser/Permenente personnel asked her if she would consider working for them as a receptionist. She accepted and a short time later the present Hayward Clinic was built and the San Leandro Clinic closed. Judy worked there for 24 years until she retired in 1977. She retired as Assistant Administrator in charge of Clerical Functions consisting of Central Appointments, Reception, Chart Room, and Medical Secretary Claims at the Hayward Medical Center. Judy and Al lived in Mission Bay Mobile Home Park for 36 years and loved living there. Judy was well known for her wonderful cooking and enjoyed playing cards, games, and traveling. After her husband passed on, Judy continued living at Mission Bay until six months ago when she moved to Casa Sandoval Retirement Living in Hayward. As requested by Mrs. Nelsen, no services will be held "as the many accolades while living were joyful and good-byes are sad." A family memorial will be held at a later date. Private family burial will be at the Mountain View Cemetery, Oakland where arrangements will be made by the Neptune Society, Castro Valley. Memorial donations may be made to a favorite charity.
