STAPLETON 1928-2005 GROVE, Okla. - Robert E. Stapleton, 77, died Thursday, April 5 at his home in Grove. He was born February 11, 1928 at Odessa, Missouri to Elgin and Anna Belle (Whitworth) Stapleton. Robert was married to Virginia Hedden Brouard in Miami, Oklahoma on March 28, 1958. She preceded him in death on November 27, 1995. He then married Rita J. Stapleton on February 3, 2001 in Jay, Oklahoma. Stapleton was a veteran of the United States Coast Guard, and he served during World War II. He worked for Owens Corning Fiberglass and retired February 25, 1983. He was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife, Rita; two sons, Robert Stapleton and wife Karen and their two children of Bonner Springs, Kansas, and Jeff Stapleton of Kansas City, Missouri; two stepsons, Steve Miller of Kansas City, Missouri, and Stuart Miller of Muldrow, Oklahoma; daughter-in-law Shirley Brouard; four stepdaughters, Kathy Hewitt of Joplin, Missouri, Anita Tarter of Norfolk, Arkansas, Brenda Mathia of Jay, and Karen Tracy of Olathe, Kansas; three grandchildren; twenty step grandchildren; and twelve step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one stepson, Allen Brouard, one sister, Margaret Allen Renzelman; one brother, James Stapleton; and one grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 9 at Worley- Luginbuel Chapel in Grove With Pastor Rick Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Zena Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 7-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
