She was born on Aug. 23, 1940 in Tulsa, Okla., to Haskel A. and Mabel (Souther) Moore. After Haskel's death, Mabel later married Ross Carlton Girider known to Marilyn as "Poppy." Marilyn graduated from Tulsa Central High School in 1958. She married Sam Jones in Jan. 1958 and two sons were born of this union, Robert Carlton Jones and Rickey Calvin Jones. She later married Gary L. Umbarger in Sept. 1967 who adopted Robert and Rickey. Marilyn started her career as a switchboard operator while in high school at Central. She later worked at Adept Business Services, Gates Hardware, Adams Hotel and Camelot Hotel. She also worked in the fur department of Vandevers and modeled for Nat Hayman. She worked at Grant Supply for 21 years where she was promoted to Administrative Assistant. Marilyn retired in 1986 to pursue her hobbies of selling jewelry and antique collectibles. She also enjoyed playing bridge and reading. She loved her little cabin in the woods at Grand Lake. She was very active in the Central High School Class of 58 Reunion committee. Marilyn came to know the Lord in 1969 at Edison Avenue Christian Church and found much comfort in her relationship with the Lord. She was a member of Community Christian Church, Tulsa. Marilyn was a member of Sigma Phi Gamma Philanthropic Sorority, Tulsa PBX Club, American Business Women's Association and Depression Glass of Tulsa. Marilyn was loved by all and will be missed, but not forgotten. Survivors include her husband Gary; two sons, Robert "Bob" Umbarger and Rickey C. Umbarger; grandchildren, Ross Umbarger, Ryan Umbarger, Reid Umbarger, Kara Umbarger; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Larry and Carol Umbarger; five cousins, several nieces and nephews and a multitude of friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mabel I. Girider, Haskel Moore, and Ross Girider. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Francis Hospice of the American Cancer Society. Memorial services will be held at 2:30 p.m., Fri., Jan. 7 at Community Christian Church, 8920 E. 31st St., Tulsa.
