All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Rest Haven Garden of Memory--Baton Rouge LA The Grove Sun Daily MARIE KATHLEEN VERNON 1912-2005 GROVE, Okla. - Marie Kathleen Vernon, 93, died Monday, October 3, 2005 at her home in Grove. Mrs. Vernon was born July 28, 1912 at Monticello, Arkansas to Edward Adam Booker and Mary Jane (Holt) Booker. Marie moved to Natchez, Mississippi at a very young age. She grew up in Natchez and attended school, there. She owned and operated Marie Ann's Hair Salon for about eight years in Natchez. Marie married James Reynolds Vernon on April 18, 1936 in Natchez. The Vernons moved to Grove, Oklahoma in 1971 and owned Twin Oaks Resort until 1975. Mr. Vernon preceded his wife in death on February 3, 1973. Marie was a member of Grove Christian Center and the Cherry Reds at Grove Hospital for many years. Survivors include a son, Pastor Leon Vernon and his wife, Lynda of Grove; a daughter, Miss Sylvia Vernon of Grove; four granddaughters, Dawn Marie Erickson, Rhonda Gayle Knox and Mary Ellen Farmer, all of Grove and Holly Ann Miller of Wichita, Kansas; eight great-grandchildren and one great- great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; by her husband; by four brothers, Luther and George Jackson and Lon and Ray Booker and by four sisters, Tex Ann Booker, Audrey Miller, Reny Sheets and Faye Booker. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, October 4, 2005 at Grove Christian Center with her son, Pastor Leon Vernon, officiating. Interment will be 10 a.m., Friday, October 7, 2005 at Rest Haven Garden of Memory, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
