She was born March 22, 1919 in Zena, Oklahoma to Ottie and Faye (Wilson) Sooter. Watson was united in marriage to Charles L. Watson February 1, 1936 in Vinita, Oklahoma, and they had three children. Watson was a devoted wife and mother, who spent her life in the tradition of "family comes first." She lived her life caring for them in sickness and health always with forgiving love and compassion. Watson was an honor student at Vinita High School, and graduated as a member of the National Honor Society. Instead of accepting a college scholarship, Watson turned her efforts toward helping her husband build a successful construction company. Over the years, her commitment to her husband's career required her to move to New Mexico, Arizona, and Texas, but she always took charge when moves had to be made or changes were needed. During these busy years, she still had time to make new friends in new places, volunteer in community projects, and give time and effort to various political campaigns, which she loved working on. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Vinita. Survivors include one son, Gary Watson and wife Maureen of Hot Springs, Arkansas; granddaughter Kelly L. Watson of Kansas City, Kansas; the Sooter Family, the Heater Family, and the Wiedower Family; and a host of friends. She was preceded in death by both of her parents; husband Charles L. Watson; an infant daughter; son Jerome Charles Watson; grandson Craig T. Watson; and stepfather Jack H. Bush. The family requests donations be made in honor of Watson to the Rosewood Terrace Nursing Center in Vinita. They would like to thank all the people who made friends and visited her after she moved back to Vinita. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday April 13 at Burckhalter Funeral Home Chapel in Vinita with Dr. Larry Wallace from the First Baptist Church officiating. Burial is to follow at Fairview Cemetery in Vinita. Arrangements are under the direction of Burckhalter Funeral Home of Vinita. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Delaware County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/delaware/delaware.html
