That day was known as Tater Day, because that's the day farmers planted their potatoes. He died peacefully on the morning of April 8, 2008. This is a picture of the Hahn family in Oklahoma about 1936. When this picture was shown to Daryl a couple of years ago, he picked himself right out of the crowd with no hesitation. He is seated on the ground on the far right. He pointed out his father, also, kneeling on the ground on the far left. This picture of the Hahn family was probably taken at the same time as the one above. Daryl is seated on the ground, third from the left, shielding his eyes from the sun. The next boy to the right is probably his brother, Buster, and the next boy over is probaly his brother, Jack. His grandmother, Lillie Hahn, is in the first row of women, standing, on the far right. His grandfather, Ben Hahn, is standing just behind and to the left of Lillie. Daryl was one of those many young men who lied about their age to enter the military. He told the recruiter he was born in 1928 to make him appear older. He served five years in the U. S. Army. In the spring of 1990, Daryl and his wife, Tommie, drove to Colorado after they attended his mother's funeral in Texas. In Colorado, they visited the family of his son, Mike. His grandchildren, Maria, Jennifer, Melanie, and Melissa, enjoyed meeting their other grandpa. Daryl was particularly fond of the baby, Melissa, when he found she had blue eyes, just like him.
