Only intimate friends of the bride-elect were bidden and the evening was spent in hemming tea towels which were later presented to Miss Purmont with her other kitchen gifts. The marriage of Miss Pauline Bessler, oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. F.S. Bessler, to Mr. Fred Bodkin, also of Enid was quietly celebrated Tuesday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bert Hamilton. An informal reception was given at the home of the bride's parents immediately after the ceremony. Mmes. Leslie Kerr, J.L Be??s, Jack Williamson and J.E. George entertained with a miscellaneous shower Wednesday afternoon for Mrs. Frank Keys, a recent bride, who was formerly Miss Nell Jones of Enid. Mrs. Keys is pipe organist at the Baptist church and members from the church made up the guest list. Among the most elaborate affairs arranged in compliment to the young society girl, Miss Mary Purmort, was the 5 o'clock tea and gold and white china shower given yesterday afternoon by Mrs. John Curran of 503 West Maple. Eighteen guests were seated at the table, which was centered with a mound of miniature electric lights surmounted by a small bride and her attendants. The menu was served in five courses in appointments of pink and white. Mrs. Charles Goltry was hostess to the Merry Matrons Tuesday afternoon. The election of officers resulted as follows: President, Mrs. J.R. Dunworth; vice president Mrs. S.N. Mayberry; secretary, Mrs. Nannie E. Jones; treasurer, Mrs. Bruce Sanders; reporter, Mrs. W. B. Penniman. After the business meeting the afternoon was spent informally sewing. Mrs. G.C. Barnes was hostess to the Bata Zata club Thursday afternoon. Miss Bertha McCafferty, popular young society girl of Enid left Tuesday for Boston, where she will study music in the New England conservatory and oratory in the Leland Powers school of expression. Miss McCafferty will be joined in Boston by Miss Faye Herzberg of this city as roommate, who will enter the New England conservatory. Miss Herzberg has been touring in the east for the past three weeks. Miss Josephine Scarff and Miss Mary Peck will leave the last of this week for Iowa City, where they will enter school for the coming year. Miss Peck attended the Oklahoma State University last year. Dr. and Mrs. W.A. Aitken and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Thomas have returned from Colorado, where they have been for the past two months. Mr. and Mrs. John Curran returned early last week from Green Mountain Falls, where they have been in their summer cottage for the past few months. Misses Vida Wheeler and Mae Clark left yesterday for Gainsville, George, where they will enter the Brenue college conservatory. Miss Faith Hieronymous and Ruth Whitson entertained with a 4 o'clock tea Friday as a courtesy to Miss Mary Purmort. Twenty guests were asked and during menu service the guests wrote favorite recipes for the bride, which were bound together in a neat book at the close of the afternoon and presented to Miss Purmort. Mr. and Mrs. O.J. Fleming spent the earlier part of the week in Kansas City, Mo., guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Letson. Dr. and Mrs. H.N. McKee and daughter, Miss Ruth McKee returned Thursday from a several week's automobile trip to Michigan and other points in the nort hand cast. The marriage of Miss Pearl Light and Mr. Ed Naylor, both popular young people of this city was quietly celebrated Monday afternoon in the Baltimore hotel, Kansas City. Miss Light, who was en route home from Wisconsin where she had been for the summer was met in Kansas City Sunday by Mr. Naylor, the wedding Monday coming as a complete surprise to Enid friends. The young people will return to Enid early this week. Misses Maurine Frantz and Mr. Douglas Frantz will entertain with a large dancing party during the first of the week in compliment to Miss Mary Purmort of this city and Mr. Harlan Herrick of Oklahoma City, whose marriage will be one of the most interesting events in Enid society this fall. Mrs. W.S. Denton and Mrs. J.H. Lottridge were hostesses to the ladies of the Colonial club and their husbands Friday night. Dinner was served at 7 o'clock and the evening was spent informally in old fashioned games. Mrs. M.L. Davis was at home to the members of the Entre Nous club Friday afternoon. Needle work and stories of summer vacations made the afternoon interesting. The Neah Jeburrh club met Thursday afternoon with Mrs. Joe Henry. Only members were present. Sewing was followed by luncheon at 5 o'clock.
