He was born March 8. ]934, in Sand Creek to Samuel Curtis land Ethel Irene Holt Shafer and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center, Enid. He graduated from Jefferson High School in 1953 and attended Northwestern State Teachers Col1ege. On Sept. 15, 1956, he married Marye Osborn in Pond Creek. They move to the Enid area and he worked at Gold Spot Dairy in 1956 and 1957. He then worked for Northrop at Vance Air Force Base for 33 years as a dispatcher, retiring in March 1999. They moved to Nash in 1996. He was a member of the Moose Lodge in Enid and the First Christian Church at Nash. Surviving are his wife, Marye of Nash; three sons, Doug of Nash, Greg of Hennessey and Scott of Enid; one daughter, Kerry Fuksa of Hennessey; one brother, Charles of Norman; one sister. Glenda Prochaska of Pond Creek; seven grandchildren; and two greatgrandchildren. Memorials may be made to Nash Firemen Association or Pond Creek Ambulance Association. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- GLEN CUSHENBERY ALVA - The funeral for Glen William "'Bud" Cushenbery, 87, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Wharton Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Elizabeth Kirkwood will officiate. Burial will be in Hardtner Cemetery at Hardtner, Kan. He was born March 27, 1914, near Sharon, Kan., to Dora Gaddy and Fred Alan Cushenbery and died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Alva Share after a sudden illness. I He attended school in Sharon, Kan., and in 1925, moved with family to Alva where he attended Eastside School. He enlisted into the Civilian Conservation Corps serving in Oklahoma, Colorado, New Mexico and Louisiana. On May 23, 1939, he married Arloa Mae Webb at Buffalo. They farmed northwest of Alva. In 1940, they moved to Wichita, Kan., working for Beech Aircraft Co. and delivering ice and newspapers. The family returned to Alva in 1946. He operated C and C Transfer and Moving Freight for the Santa Fe and Rock Island Railroad. In 1948, he operated his own truck line. In 1954, he operated Cush's Corner. In 1956, he became an agent for North American Van lines, retiring in I977. He was a member of the Moose Lodge and was a former member of the Elks Lodge. Surviving are three daughters, Maryona Morris of Alva, Glenna Ewing of Capron and Sanza Grant of Hardtner; three sons, Elisha William of Longview, Texas, Harold Willis and Eddie Lee, both of Alva; four sisters, Blanche Cox of Alva, Juanita Parsons and Virginia Dudik, both of Burnett, Texas, and Roseann Wulfesting of Downey, Calif.; two brothers, Fred of Alva and Rex of Orlando, Fla.; 20 grand-children; 40 great-grandchildren; and five great-great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one daughter, three sisters and four brothers. She was born March 2. 1904. in Hitchcock to Martin and Anna Schmitz Strack and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Saint Ann's, Oklahoma City. On Nov. 25, 1925. she married John Kloeppel in Okeene. They bought a farm near Kingfisher in 1935. She moved into Kingfisher in 1952. She was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She was nominated as Woman of the Year by NCCW, and was a volunteer for Meals-on- Wheels. Surviving are three sons, Albert and Joe, both of Kingfisher, and Lawrence of Joplin, Mo.; four daughters, Louise Gruntmeir of Okarche, Irene Cole of Tulsa, Anna Greving of Broken Arrow and Lucille Sund of Oklahoma City; one sister, Louise Quintle of Omega; 27 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; and five stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband on Jan. 6, 1952, two grandsons, six brothers and one sister. She was born Oct. 1, 1935, in Lovell to Darrel and Laura Denny Beauchamp and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Crescent. She married Kenneth Gray in 1970 at Oklahoma City and was a housewife and mother. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge and the VFW Ladies Auxiliary. Surviving are one daughter, Vickie Pardue of Buffalo, Wyo., two sons, Randy Black of Crescent and Frank Gray of Union City; one brother, Jerry Beauchamp of Odessa, Texas; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two step- grandchildren; and two stepgreat-grandchildren. He was born Nov. 19, 1908 in Black Rock to David Frank Cosper and Lettie Pierce and died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, at his daughter's home. He was reared in Coal County and was a resident of the Gerty area before moving to Talihina in 1975. He marriecl Inez Fulton. He was a retired farmer. Surviving are two sons, Paul of Talihina and John of Brighton, Colo.; two daughters, Kathryn Thetford of Talihina and Darlene Whorton of Fairmont; 16 grandchildren; and 14 great-granctchildren. Colo. --- There is no service for Betty Newton Fry, 77. The body was cremated. Arrangements are by Kibbey-Fishburn Funeral Home. She was born Jan. 21 1924, in Cherokee to George F. and Bertha Mollett Newton and died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at her home in Loveland, Colo. She graduated from Enid High School in 1942 and then from Enid Business College. She was a homemaker and traveled extensively, living in Venezuela, Libya, Somalia and Egypt. She moved to Loveland from Steamboat Springs, Colo., in 1995. She was a member of First United Methodist Church of Loveland. Surviving are four sons, Steve of Woodlands, Texas, Martin of Scottsdale, Ariz., Thomas of Fort Collins, Colo., and Bradley of Steamboat Springs; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- HAROLD C. SCOTT OKLAHOMA CITY - The funeral for Harold C. Scott will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. Burial will be in Resurrection Memorial Cemetery. Arrangements are by Smith & Kernke Funeral Directors. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born and raised near Tonkawa to Arthel and Viola Scott and died Tuesday, Jan. 14, 2002, at his home in Oklahoma City where he had lived nearly 52 years. He attended Tonkawa High School and two years of pre-engineering at University Prep School, then NYA Basic Radio School. He married Viola Engelman in Enid in February of 1942. He was employed with Continental Oil as an electrician's helper. In September 1942. he began work as a radio repairman at Tinker Field, where he was promoted to radio mechanic. He enlisted in the Army Signal Corps Reserve and entered active duty in January 1943. In June 1944. he completed five terms of study at Oregon State in electrical engineering. From 1944 to 1946, he was with the Plant Engineering Agency of the Army Signal Corps in Philadelphia as an instructor in the low frequency range school. He innovated a technique for tuning the low frequency range antenna towers that proved faster and more direct than the CAA method. After his discharge from the Army in 1946, he began work for CAA as a technician at Kansas City, Mo. This was followed by assignments at Omaha, Neb., and Salina, Kan., before transferring to Oklahoma City in July 1950 as a radio engineer instructor, in 1963, he was assigned to Washington in order to develop a NSA education program for FAA. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, served on the church council and taught Sunday school. He was a member of XYZ Club at the church and the Oklahoma City All Sports Association. Surviving are wife, Viola of the home; one son, Dr. John Scott of Bluegrove, Texas; one daughter, Barbara Smith of Shawnee; two sisters, Bertha Beringer of Phoenix, Ariz., and Belva Carson of Baxter Springs, Kas.; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was born Nov. 16, 1932, in Loyal to Earl and Depbia Page Glazier and died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at his son's home in Oklahoma City. He graduated from Loyal High School in 1950 and served in the Navy with the Seabees during the Korean War. He returned to Loyal and worked with his father at Glazier Hardware for several years. He started in the grain business at Loyal Sooner Co-op Grain Elevator and later moved to the Omega area for 35 years. He retired in 1997 from Kingfisher Co-op. He served on the board of directors of Oklahoma Grain and Feed Dealers Association and was president in 1981-82. He was a member of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Cburch in Kingfisher, American Legion Post No. 34 in El Reno and the VFW Post No. 9969 in Oklahoma City. He was a charter member of Kingfisher Elk's Lodge and a member of Kingfisher Golf Association. Surviving are one son, David of Oklahoma City; one brotber, Marvin of Loyal three grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, one daughter and one sister. SUMMERS SULPHUR - A graveside service for Weston Tilman Summes, 76, will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Oaklawn Cemetery. The Rev. Bill Leveridge will officiate. Arrangements are by Clagg Funeral Home. He was born Oct.19, 1926, in El Reno to Tilman Summers and Edith Louisa Reynolds Summers and died Monday, Jan. 14, 2002, at Sulphur. He was a laborer and a veteran of World War II, serving in the Navy. He grew up in El Reno and moved to Enid where he attended school. He worked for Longbell Lumber Co. Surviving is one niece, Judy Fox of Kremlin. He was preceded in death by one sister. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- JEAN ANN JACKSON The funeral for Jean Ann Jackson, 60, will be 1 p.m. Thursday in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah Witnesses. She was born Feb. 5. 1941, in Birmingham, Ala., to Katie Stephenson and died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2002, at Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. She attended public schoof at Birmingham, then moved with family to Enid where she completed her education. She married Wilbert Lofton in Birmingham. They had two children. She later manied Joe Slaten before marrying William Jackson, whom she was married to for more then 27 years. She worked at Doyle's Cafeteria and Enid State School as a registered aide for the handicap. She owned a day care, Jack and Jill, and worked in the home health field for Integris Bass Baptist Health Center. Surviving are her husband, William of the home; two children, Curtis Loften and Pernethia Dority, both of Enid; two stepdaughters, Deidra Bennett and Usandra Jackson, both of Oklahoma City; one sister, Jeanette Collins; 25 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one son and one granddaughter. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- ESTHER GRABOW CANTON- The funeral for Esther Viola Grabow, 102, will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Canton First Christian Church. She was born Oct. 17, 1899 at Oakwood to Horace and Frances Beihler Edsall and died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2002, at Watonga. She attended school in the Oakwood and Watonga areas. On Aug. 16. 1919, she married Fred Paul Grabow at Kingfisher. They lived in Loyal, Eagle City and Kingfisher where they farmed. They retired in 1965 and moved into Watonga. At the Watonga Rehabilition Center, she sewed uniforms for staff members and mended for residents. She was a member of Watonga Senior Citizens Center and delivered meals on wheels to Watonga residents. She was a member of Cheyenne Quilters in Eagle City and belonged to Merry Circle Home Demonstration Club. She was of the Methodist faith and attended the Reorganized Church of Latter-Day Saints. Surviving are two daughters, Mildred Scott of Eagle City and Estalene Taply of Watonga; one son, Fred of Canton; 16 grandchildren; 46 great- grandchildren; and 47 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, one son, one grandchild, four great-grandchildren, three brothers and three sisters.
