Service pending with Anderson-Burris Funeral Home. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- WASHINGTON HASKINS DERBY Kan. - The funeral for Washington Haskins, 89, will Be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bethel-Hawley Baptist Church. The Rev. Gary Lillie will officiate. Burial will be in Hawley Cemetery. Arrangements are by Wilson Funeral Home, Pond Creek. He was born June 22, 1912, in Hawley to Homer Francis and Alice Louisa Lumbert Haskins and died Friday, Dec. 21, 2001, in Westview Manor at Derby. He graduated from Gore High School. On March 6, 1935, he married Jessie Helen Apple in Clayton, N.M. They lived on a farm west of Hawley and ran the filling station. They lived in Missouri around two years before returning to live near in 1950. They moved to Derby in 1951. He owned his own concrete business until retiring in 1974. He was one of the found of First Christian Church. They moved to Havana, Kan.. in 1974. They moved to Mulvane, Kan. in 1980. In 1994 moved to Derby. He moved into Westview Manor Nursing home in May. He was a member of First Christian Church at Derby. Surviving are his wife, Jessie of Derby: two sons, John of Derby and Earl of Haysville, Kan.; one daughter, Willa Del Cole of Clay Center, Kan.; one sister, Vida Shipley of Oklahoma City; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-children. He was preceded in death by one daughter, one grandson, five brothers and five sisters. Memorials may be made to the church. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OPAL 'IONA' WALLIS The funeral for Opal "Iona" Wallis, 72. will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Ladusau- Evans Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Ron Adrian and the Rev. Wade Burleson will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The casket will be open until service time. She was born May 22, 1929, in Wanette to Wiley Ray and Opal Irene Cox Wallace and died Saturday. Dec. 22, 2001, at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. On April 17, 1949, she married Austin Wallis in Enid. She sold real estate for a number of years and had been employed with Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home until retirement. She was a member of the Seminole Baptist Church in Springfield, Mo., and Emmanuel Baptist Church in Enid and the Airstream Club. Surviving are her husband, Austin of the home; one daughter, Cheryl Suiter of Enid; one son, Kent of Enid; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter. Memorials may be made through the funeral home to either church. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- LESTER L. HOFFMAN ANTHONY. Kan. - The funeral for Lester L. Hoffman, 92, will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Coummunity Baptist Church at Hazelton. Kan. The Rev. Carl Bush and Mike Moyer will officiate. Burial will be in Rose Hill Cemetery at Hazelton. Arrangements are by Fisher Funeral Home, Kiowa, Kan. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. He was born Nov. 3, 1909, in Nortonville, Kan., to Charles L. and Katherine Wormser Hoffman and died Saturday, Dec. 22, 2001, at Kansas Heart Hospital in Wichita. As an infant, he moved with family to Hazelton. On July 20, 1930, he married Margaret Rose Parker at Dodge City, Kan. He worked as an ice and coal deliveryman, dairyman, appliance dealer, carpenter and farmer. He moved to Kiowa in 1973 and had lived in Anthony the past five years. He was a member of Community Baptist Church at Hazelton. Surviving are three sons, Jim of Hazelton, Jon of Amarillo, Texas, and Tony of Dallas; two daughter, Pat Balding of Woodbury, Minn., and Trudy Hines of Saint Paul Minn.; one sister, Edith Major of Houston; 12 grandchildren; and 12 great- grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife on May 17, 1989, one son, two brothers and two sisters. Memorials may be made to the church. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------- DAVID C. ABBOTT KIOWA, Kan. - The funeral for David C. Abbott, 43, will be 2 p.m. Thursday in the Community Building at Kiowa. Jack Pilgrim will officiate. Burial will be in Blue Jacket Cemetery at Blue Jacket. Arrangements are by Fisher Funeral Home. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until noon Thursday at the funeral home. He was born Oct. 11, 1958, in Wellington, Kan., to Robert E. and Olla Mae Miers Abbott and died Sunday, Dec. 23, 2001, at Kiowa District Hospital. He was an auto and diesel mechanic and had moved to Kiowa in 1961. He had lived in Wichita, Kan., and in Tulsa. He was a member of Kiowa Southern Baptist Church. Surviving are one daughter, Carrie Abbott of Kiowa; his mother, Olla Mae Abbott of Kiowa; one brother, Delbert of El Paso, Texas; two sisters, Roberta Ditch of Odessa, Texas, and Darlene Peaks of Alva. GAULEY The funeral service for Ethel Bernice Gauley, 89-year-old Enid resident, will be today, December 24, 2001, at 2:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Dr. John Crawford officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Hill Cemetery at Ringwood under the direction of Henninger-Allen Funeral Home. She was born on May 25, 1912, in LaJara, Colo., to Ralph and Essie (Cawthon) Gauley, and died December 23, 2001 at St. Mary's Regional Medical Center. She grew up and attended school in Ringwood and lived there until 1940 when she moved to Enid going to work for Tom and Betty Dillingham. She lived in their home and cared for their family for over 40 years until Betty's death in 1981. She was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church for over 60 years. She was very active in the Presbyterian Women's Association and Sunday school class. She had lived the last 11 years at Meadows Point Apartments. She loved to quilt and care for other people. She is survived by many friends. Memorials may be made to The First Presbyterian Church with Henninger-Allen acting as custodians of the fund. Brett Himes will officiate. Burial will be in Enid Cemetery under the direction of the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. He was born in Enid September 15, 1924, to Grover David Sr. and Marie Erick Himes and died December 20, 2001. Puss enjoyed and was honored to serve in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He also enjoyed and was very successful as a Golden Glove boxer and trainer. But he achieved the most enjoyment from being a Social Club owner and making many friends through the years. He also owned and operated Himes Sandblasting and Painting for 41 years. Surviving are two sons and daughter-in-laws, Roy David and Kathy Himes of Enid, Brett Michael and Sherry Himes of Enterprise, AL; one daughter and son-in-law Terri and Freddie Simmons of Enid; two brothers, Chuck of Clinton, IA., Benny of Naples, FL; two sisters, Rosa Bond of Sandy, OR, and Zelma Miles of Arcata, CA; six grandchildren, Taylor and Cassie Himes of Enid, Kylie Himes of Enterprise, AL, Rebecca, Nicole and Jessica Simmons of Enid; and numerous nieces and nephews.
