All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Bakersfield Californian 2 June 2004 GERALD DEAN BUFFALOW "JERRY" August 9, 1937 - May 29, 2004 Visitation for Gerald "Jerry" Dean Buffalow will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles St.) on Thursday, June 3, 2004 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and graveside service will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Friday, June 4, 2004 at 11:00 a.m. Pastor Bob Winter will officiate. Jerry was born August 9, 1937 in Enid, Oklahoma and he passed away on May 29, 2004 in Bakersfield with his family by his side. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Evert and Alice Buffalow; and sister, Mary Freels; and he is survived by his wife, Janet Buffalow; stepchildren, Sheila and Ron Vogel; Vic and Vivian Cope; Don and Lana Abbott; Gayle and Steve Steele; sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Jim Croy of Kansas; 3 nieces and 1 nephew of Kansas; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. As a young man, Jerry worked in the lumber industry and enjoyed fishing and gardening with his father. Jerry joined the Navy at age 18, and received his GED while serving out country. After 22 years as a ship's mechanic, he retired as an E-7. He then moved to Kern County and worked for the State of California as a mechanic for the Department of Power and Water Resources, and after 19 years he retired from the State of California. He married his present wife, Janet, on April 15, 2001, and together they enjoyed traveling, fishing, and their favorite trip was to State Line where Jerry was a very "Lucky Gambler." He also enjoyed the Daily Scratchers which he would buy everyday, as well as their visits to Jennie's Westfair where they would gather with their friends daily. Jerry was a member of the American Legion Post 26, Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 20, National Order of Trench Rats, No. 159 and the Stockdale Moose Lodge Chapter 1203 for over 25 years. Pallbearers are Don Cantrell, Rick Wells, Sam Ayres, John Berry, Rollie Hoffman and Richie Herbst. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Optimal Hospice for their care during this difficult time.
