Gasaway Virginia E. Gasaway, 91, of Norman, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 18, 2005. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, May 23, 2005, at the First Christian Church of Norman with the Reverend David Spain officiating. A brief memorial service for Enid friends and interment will be held at Memorial Park Cemetery in Enid at 3:00 p.m. that same day. Virginia was born February 12, 1914, in Norman Oklahoma. She graduated from University High School, and earned a BA in English from the University of Oklahoma. Harold Gasaway asked her to marry him in 1936, and they were married for 63 wonderful years, until his death in 2000. After World War II, Harold and Virginia moved to Enid where Harold became City Attorney, and remained there for over 55 years until Virginia moved to rbor House Assisted Living Center in Norman in 2001. During their time together in Enid, she was an active participant of the Pioneer Class and CWF at Central Christian Church. She was a member of DB chapter of PEO, Junior Welfare League, and enjoyed several garden, gourmet and bridge clubs. Growing up in the University of Oklahoma community, she was a life member of the OU Alumni Association, a Founding Member of the OU Associates program, and a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. Virginia was a gourmet cook, and loved to entertain friends and family. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her brother, Kenneth Kraettli; and her parents, Eva and Emil Kraettli. Harold and Virginia raised three sons that survive them: Charles Gasaway and his wife, Carolyn, of Alva, Oklahoma, Allen Gasaway of Ojai, California, and Jim Gasaway and his wife, Stephanie, of Norman, Oklahoma. They had 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. The family would like to express their thanks to the caring staff members at rbor House Assisted Living Center, Brookhaven Extensive Care and Heartland Hospice in Norman for allowing her to complete her last years with dignity, comfort, safety and love. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Gasaway Endowment at Central Christian Church of Enid, 1111 W. Broadway, Enid, OK, 73703 or to the Gasaway/Kraettli Scholarship Fund at the University of Oklahoma Foundation, 100 Timberdell Road, Norman, OK 73019.
