Gritz The memorial service for Gladys Amanda Winn (Driever) Gritz will be at 10 a.m. Saturday in the Fellowship Hall at Applegate Christian Fellowship in Ruch. Pastor Mark Skudstad will officiate. The graveside service will be held this week in Enid, Okla. Mrs. Gritz, 94, of Applegate, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at her home. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Breast Cancer Association, 31 W. Sixth St., Medford, OR 97501. She was born April 13, 1908, in Hitchcock, Okla., the youngest of six children of Frederick E. and Amanda Driever. She attended school in Hitchcock until she was 14, when the family moved to Enid, Okla., and she graduated from Enid High School. In 1931, she married Elmer C. (E.C.) Gritz, who died in 1993. Her husband was a school teacher until 1942, when they moved to Kansas City, Mo., to attend dental school. They returned to Enid in 1945 to raise their family and build a dental practice. They were married 61 years. After her husband's death, she began yearly trips to the Applegate Valley to spend time with her oldest granddaughter and her family. In 1999, at age 91, she moved to Southern Oregon to live with her family in Applegate overlooking her "peaceful valley" as she called it. "Grandma Gritz," as she was known to her family and friends, was an avid sports fan and rarely missed her great-granddaughter's volleyball or basketball games at Hidden Valley High School. She enjoyed quilting and won Grand Champion in quilts at the 2002 Jackson County Fair. Survivors include a son, John W., Phoenix, Ariz.; a daughter, Carolyn Munger, Ponca City, Okla.; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandson.
