All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Parent-Sorensen Mortuary FH--Sebastopol CA Santa Rosa Press Democrat Published on January 29, 1997 JOHN DANIEL HUDGINS John Daniel Hudgins, retired pastor of the Country Assembly of God Church in Graton, died Sunday at a Sebastopol hospital of leukemia. He was 71. Reverend Hudgins was involved with Assembly of God churches from age 17 until his death. He grew from a guitar-playing, 17-year-old church member to an ordained minister through the Assembly of God headquarters in Springfield, Mo., the latter coming by petition in 1992. Hudgins was born in Luela, Okla., and came to Sebastopol in 1942. He began with the church by playing guitar and other service at the Sebastopol Assembly of God. He then served as an Army medic during the Korean War before returning to the church in Sebastopol. His daughter, Marcy Ostrand of Cotati, said he also was an associate pastor or pastor at Assembly of God churches in Cloverdale, Cotati, Fortuna and Santa Rosa. He retired because of illness in 1994 after 11 years at the Graton church. He maintained his minister's license and served the church when able. Hudgins also was a general contractor for 17 years, operating Jay- Dee's Construction in Sebastopol. He had worked as a carpenter since age 22. His carpentry skills served him well in projects for his church, according to his daughter. He enjoyed camping, fishing and yard work. He also maintained 10 acres of apples through the years. He also looked forward to family visiting including spending time with his 14 grandchildren. He was a member of the Assemblys of God Ministerial Association, the Carpenter's Union and a former member of the Cotati Lions Club. Besides his daughter and grandchildren, Hudgins is survived by his wife of 45 years, Barbara Hudgins of Sebastopol; other daughters, Trudy Poirier of Billings, Mont., and Kerry Skiles of Middletown; son, Timothy Hudgins of Sebastopol; and sister, Parelee Armstrong of Kelseyville. Friends can visit from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the Parent-Sorensen Mortuary in Sebastopol, 301 South Main St. Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Sebastopol Assembly of God Church. Family and friends will gather at the church hall after the services. Burial will be private.
