All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::City of Woodland Cemetery--Woodlawn CA Linda Sue Helton Linda Sue Helton, long-time educator at Capay School, passed away on June 11, 2007, at her home in Chico with friends and family. Linda was 56 years old. Linda was born in Enid, Okla., to Hubert R. (Jack) Helton and Ruby Barnett Helton. The family moved to California when Linda was 3 years old. She attended school in Dixon, Calif. Linda earned a BA in American Studies and Italian, and received her Elementary Teaching Credential from CSU, Chico. She also attended Butte College, The Academia in Florence (Firenze), Italy, and the Northeastern University in Tahlequah, Okla. She later received her administrative credential from CSU Chico. Linda began her school teaching career in Coffeyville, Nowata County, Okla. Upon returning to California she was hired by the Capay Joint Union Elementary School District. Linda taught various grades from 1979-2002. In 1988 she also assumed the role of principal-superintendent-teacher. Linda retired in 2002. Linda was loved and respected by many and she has touched many lives. She was intelligent, quick-witted, and a good listener with a no- nonsense approach to life. Linda loved to read and travel. She visited various continents, including Europe, Asia, Africa and North America. Linda was a terrific hostess and her home was open to many. Linda is survived by her aunts: Laura Gladine Marshall of Clearlake, Calif., Wanda Barnett Drake (Clarence) of Kingman, Kan., her Uncle Eugene Helton of Dewey, Ariz., and a slew of cousins and friends. A visitation will be held on Thursday, June 14, 2007, from 6-8 pm and a funeral service will be held Friday, June 15, 2007, at 10 am, at Newton Bracewell Chico Funeral Home (680 Camellia Way-Chico). Interment will be at the City of Woodland Cemetery on Friday, June 15, 2007, at 3 pm. Memorial donations may be made to Enloe Hospice or Peg Taylor Center in care of Newton Bracewell.
