Hess, Bowden School Superintendent will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday in the Elk City First Baptist Church with Rev. Otto C. Perry, Nazarene pastor, officiating assisted by Rev. Lewis Hancock, Baptist pastor. Born March 31, 1917 in Mt. Hope, Kansas. Mr. Hess died in a local hospital Thursday January 30, 1958 after an illness of five weeks. He came to Oklahoma and settled at Aline in 1923. Later he lived in Enid 1925 to 1927; in Tecumseh 1927 to 1932; then moved to Elk City. Mr. Hess was a graduate of Elk City High School and had been in schoolwork as teacher, coach and superintendent since 1943. He taught in Canute 1943; Reed 1944; Mangum 1945; Cheyenne for five years - 1946 to 1951; Reed again from 1952 to 1955 and had been at Cowden since 1956. He was married to Miss Opal Irene McArthur in Clinton in 1944. His church preference was Baptist. He was a member of the OEA, the OAA and the IOOF Lodge. Survivors include his wife and daughter, Ruth Elaine, home; a sister, Mrs. Charles Work, Clinton; three brothers J.M., San Leandro, California; Harry, Elk City and L.L. of Cordell. Casketbears will be Jack "Pinky" Jones, Cheyenne, Wayne Hiser, Gracemont; Coleman Thompson and Van Wright, Reed; Franklin Boles, Cowden and Jackie Gillette, Oklahoma City. Burial will be in Fairlawn Cemetery under direction of Savage Funeral Home.
