Born Nov. 16, 1916, in Enid, Okla., Mrs. Irby had been a Yolo County resident for 66 years. She was one of eight children born to the late Walter and Laura (Claypole) Buchholz. She was married, in 1933, before she and her husband came to California. They arrived in Yolo County in 1936 where they made their home and reared five children. Mrs. Irby was employed by the local Woodland cannery for 33 years and continued her work as the union representative of Cannery Workers Local Union until her retirement in 1978. Mrs. Irby is survived by her children Robert "Bob" Irby and wife Carolyn of Rio Linda, Katherine Kelley and husband Dale of Canyonville, Ore., Walter "Sonny"' Irby and wife Sharon of Woodland, and Velma "Sis" Irby of Austin, Texas; nine grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are her brothers, John and Ronald Buchholz. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Noble P. Irby, in May 1969; and daughter, Delores Faye Irby, in November 1942. Family and friends are invited to attend the remembrance of her life at a graveside funeral service scheduled at 11 a.m., Friday, July 26, in Monument Hill Memorial Park, Woodland, with Chaplain Scott Montgomery officiating. No visitation is scheduled prior to the graveside service. The family requests memorials be directed, in her name, to: Cancer Society of Northern California, 1765 Challenge Way, Sacramento, 95815; or American Heart Association, 2007 "O" St., Sacramento, 95814.
