(Combs) Klenk, passed away on July 14, 2002, after a short battle with cancer. She was born in Waukomis, Oklahoma, on August 2, 1924, to Phillip B. and Delta B. Combs. They lived in several cities in Oklahoma before settling in Enid. She graduated from Enid High School in 1942 and worked in Washington D.C. before returning to Enid to marry the love of her life, Felix A. Klenk, and raise their family. She worked for Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in Enid and the family moved to Oklahoma City in 1959, but kept in touch with a lot of friends in the 'Southwestern Bell Pioneers.' She continued to work for Southwestern Bell in Oklahoma City and then worked for American Fidelity in Oklahoma City before her retirement. She was a wonderful daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. She loved music and in her school days, played the piano, clarinet, oboe and bassoon. She also played the organ for services at Our Savior Lutheran Church where she and Felix were Charter members. She enjoyed her painting classes and became quite an accomplished artist. Her paintings are proudly displayed in the homes of family and friends. She also enjoyed her 'mud' days with her friends. Her loving husband of 42 years predeceased her as did her two sons, Phillip A. and Russell C. Klenk. She leaves behind her daughter, Carol Sue Klenk Robinson, two grandaughters, Debra R. Gay and Stacey A. Gaylord and husband, C. Bruce Gaylord, and four great grandchildren, Dustin Gay, Derick Gay, Mitchell Gaylord and Madison Gaylord. Her brother and sister- in law, Jack & Bessie Combs & family; and a sister-in law, Gladys and husband, Carl Ferm & family, also survive her. Through her art classes, she met the second man in her life, Gus Anderson, who loved her and spoiled her as much as my Dad, Felix. Gus and Mom enjoyed painting and sculpting classes and having each other as loving companions. Mom and I became more than mother and daughter, we became close friends and I will miss her very much, as will her granddaughters and great grandchildren and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorials are requested to be made to the Cancer Society, or your favorite charity. Memorial Services are set for 11:00 A.M., Thursday, July 18, 2002, Yanda & Son Funeral Home, Yukon, OK YANDA & SON FUNERAL HOME Yukon, OK 350-7101 Published in the Oklahoman on 7/17/2002. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Garfield County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/garfield/garfield.html
