Celebration of life: reception at Treebeards Restaurant. Graveside service (family): Mont Meta in Rio Hondo. Born March 20, 1918, to Gertrude Carpenter and Mack Mize in Rio Hondo, Mack Jr. was the first Mize of the Isaac Mize (born 1840 in Kentucky) clan to be born in Texas after the family migrated from Missouri in 1915. Mack Jr., known as "Bushy" to his South Texas clan, married Sara Williams of Harlingen in 1936 after he completed undergraduate studies at John Tarleton Military Academy in Stephenville. Mack graduated from the University of Texas in 1939 with a degree in business and moved his young family to Corpus Christi to begin a career as an oil company accountant. After rising through the ranks of the Chicago Corporation, Mack moved his growing family to Enid, Okla., where Mack pursued his career at the top levels of Champlin Petroleum Company until his retirement in 1982. Mack was well known among Champlin employees for his generosity and trust and for giving people a chance. Mack and Sara both worked hard for their family but enjoyed life in Enid and were well known in the Enid area for their love of dancing and entertaining. They are widely credited with creating and popularizing the "Rio Hondo Stomp" during the 1960s. In failing health, Mack and Sara returned to Texas in 2000. Mack and Sara and the Mize family extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of Com For Care in Bellaire and to Jay Morales, Mack's best friend and companion during his last three years. Dad, we love you and will miss you very much. Mack was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Susan Mize Welch, Mary Mize Howard, Martha Ann Mize Simpson and Mack's brothers, Sam, Jack and Rodney.
