All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Lawton Constitution 18 May 2003 Doris Hatfield Matthews Funeral for Doris Hatfield Matthews, 82, Lawton, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church with Rev. Frankye A. Johnson, pastor, officiating. Mrs. Matthews died Friday, May 16, 2003, at a local nursing center after a lengthy illness. Burial will be in Highland Cemetery under direction of Lawton Ritter Gray Funeral Home. She was born May 31, 1920, in Covington to Alvin M. and Addie Hackett Hatfield. She grew up in the vicinity of Burns Flat and Arapaho. She graduated from Arapaho High School in 1938. She was also a graduate of Cameron College. She worked for civil service at Fort Sill and for the Lawton Public Schools as a secretary. She retired from Lawton Public Schools in May, 1981. She married Jean Houston Matthews on Sept. 25, 1941, in Carlsbad, N.M. She was a member of the Comanche County and the Oklahoma Retired Educators Associations. She was a 50-year member of First United Methodist Church, joining in 1948. She was active on various committees and had worked in the Sunday School Department.Survivors include her husband, of the home; two sons: James Matthews, Broken Arrow; Kenneth Matthews and his fiancé, Leslie Cullen, Denver; two brothers: Fred Hatfield and Maylen Hatfield, both of Clinton; four grandchildren: Addie Parke and husband, Tim, and Ashley Matthews, all of Bentonville, Ark., Ann Matthews and Caitlin Matthews, both of Colorado Springs; three great- grandchildren: Ansley Matthews, Aaron Parke, and Isaac Parke.
