McCoy, Vera Aldine    

Vera Aldine McCoy passed away Wednesday, August 15, 2007, in 
Bakersfield. Vera was born Vera Goetting, to Lavenia and Harry, on 
December 4, 1913, in Enid, Oklahoma. She married Herschel Martin in 
Lawton, Oklahoma and they moved to Anadarko, where their first son, 
Rex, was born, then to Wasco, CA, in 1937. Son, Larry was born later 
in Bakersfield. Vera raised her boys alone, working full-time at 
Clark Pest Control and later as Postmistress at the, then active, 
Minter Field Post Office in the Driggers' Store. In later years, 
after marrying Semi-Tropic cotton farmer, Ray McCoy, and retiring to 
Bakersfield, she was active in the Bakersfield Art Association and 
has left many fine oil and watercolor paintings, highly valued by her 
children. She was an avid antique collector and enjoyed rummaging 
antique and junk stores. Late into her eighties she was an energetic 
power walker, sometimes doing ten miles a day and could be seen 
striding old Bakersfield and Westchester where she resided until a 
week prior to passing. Vera was preceded in death by her first 
husband, Herschel; her second husband, Ray; brothers, Clifford and 
Harry; and sisters, Ruth and Jean. She leaves son, Rex Martin of 
Bakersfield, his son, Scott of Hawaii; his son, Jason Martin and 
wife, Monica and their children, Shelby and Seth of Bakersfield; and 
his daughter, Lisa Harp and husband, David and their children Ethan 
and Jacob of La Canada-Flintridge, CA. She also leaves son, Larry, 
his wife, Kat of Missoula, MT., and his children, Michael and sons, 
Mike and Cody of Missoula, MT.; Mitchell and his wife, Dorothy and 
daughters, Christina, Jasmine, and Claudia of Bakersfield; and sons, 
Jeff and Josh by a prior marriage; Mathew and his wife, Kira and 
their daughter, Katy and son, Maxwell of Kenmore, WA.; and son, Rex 
(Monty) of Missoula, MT. Graveside services and a celebration of 
Vera's life will be held at Shafter Memorial Park, at 10:00 a.m., 
Monday, August 20th. Vera was a beautiful, caring, and vital woman, 
and an incomparable parent and friend. She will be forever loved and
