All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Meibergen, Mary Esther Mary Esther Meibergen, Services for Mary Esther Meibergen will be held Thursday, July 19, 2007, at 11:00 A.M. in St. Matthew's Episcopal Church. The Reverend Steve Samples will officiate at the service. Arrangements are under the direction of Henninger Allen Funeral Home. Following a brief illness, Mary Esther, aged 98, passed away Monday, July 16, 2007 in the home of Lew and Suzy Meibergen. Mary Esther was born in Enid, Oklahoma on February 18, 1909 to Olive and W.B. Johnston. She was a 1926 graduate of Enid High School. She attended Ward Belmont College in Nashville, Tennessee and University of Oklahoma where she was a member of Delta Delta Delta sorority. In 1930, she married Joe Meibergen in her family home in Enid. Mary Esther showed her leadership abilities by participating in numerous community organizations which included Junior Welfare, the women's auxiliary of the American Businessmen's Club and the Chamber of Commerce. She was an avid swimmer and taught swimming to many of Enid's young people at both Lake Hellum's Amusement Park and Government Springs Park. In addition, Mary Esther was a founding member of Oakwood Country Club. Also she served as secretary of the Spring Valley School District 33 School Board. Her home, just north of Enid, was always open to family and friends, as well as strangers in time of need. The farm was the place of many memories of her children's childhood friends. After WWII, when temporary housing was unavailable in Enid, Mary Esther willingly opened her home to families stationed at Vance Air Force Base. She was known for her hospitality, optimism, and sense of humor throughout her long life and was loved and admired by her family and may friends. Mary Esther was an active member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild and in the women's organization. She was a member of P.E.O. Sisterhood where she was a member of Chapter A, a charter member in Chapters DO and FA where she also served as an officer. Upon her husband, Joe's retirement from W.B. Johnston's Grain Company, they made their home in Scottsdale, Arizona. In Arizona, she was a member of St. Barnabas on the Desert Episcopal Church and Chapter AI of P.E.O. In 2002, she returned to Enid and made her home at Greenbriar Residential Living. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Meibergen, one daughter, Sue Ann, and two brothers, Dale Johnston of Enid and Glen Johnston of Guymon. Mary Esther is survived by a son, Lew Meibergen and his wife Suzy, of Enid, a daughter, Kay Lee of Shreveport, Louisiana; six grandchildren, which include, Butch Meibergen and Mary Henneke of Enid, Jim Lee of Rockledge, Florida, Annette Lee and Laura Kind of Shreveport, La. And Joe Lee of Baton Rouge, La. She is also survived by eleven great grand children, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Greenbriar Residential Living, Dr. James Shepherd, St. Mary's Hospital, Circle of Love Hospice, Lucille Carpenter, Marilyn Rogers, and Larry Smith. In lieu of flowers the family has requested memorials be made to St. Matthews Episcopal Church, Hospice Circle of Love, Grand National Quail Foundation, or the charity of your choice.
