All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ::Enid Cemetery--Enid OK Powell, Wylma Norene Funeral services for Wylma Norene Powell, age 93 of Midwest City, formerly of Enid will be 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 23, 2003 in LadusauEvans Chapel. David and Elwyn Patten, nephews of Wylma Norene's will officiate. Her final resting-place will be in the Enid Cemetery. There will be a visitation from 7 to 9:00p.m. in the Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home. She was born August 15, 1909 in Togo, Oklahoma to Chester Elwyn and Flora Anne Vannoy Patten and passed away Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in Midwest City. At the time of her birth, Wylma's parents lived in a dug out in the side of a hill near Togo, Oklahoma, Major County. Her family moved from Togo to Tecumseh and later to Enid in 1920, where she lived until moving to Midwest City in 1948. Her professional life was dedicated to cosmetology education. She served as president of the Oklahoma Beauty School's Association and was also director and historian for the National Association of Cosmetology Schools. Wylma owned and operated her own Beauty Colleges in Enid, Oklahoma City, Midwest City, and Cleveland all in Oklahoma. She also owned a wig shop and hair styling salons in Enid and Midwest City. She was also successful in other areas of business, owning a family recreation center and a shopping center in Midwest City. Wylma enjoyed crocheting, bowling, working in her flower beds and rock garden. Throughout her life her constant companions were her miniature poodles. She was a community leader, serving on the board of directors of the Midwest City Chamber of Commerce and the Midwest City Memorial Hospital. She was also vice president of the Pilot Club and American Business Women's Association. She is survived by her daughter Lois Record and her husband Joe of Enid, her son, Charles Campbell Jr. and his wife Sonya of Midwest City, eight grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, two great- great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and friends. Wylma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Fred in 1983, a daughter, Imogene, two hrothers, Riley and Oliver Patten, and two sisters, Ann Scott and Thelma Steele.
