Thomas Clarkson Stout, son of Mahlon and Nancy Stout, was born September 24, 1865, near Emporia, Kansas, and departed this life at noon February 28, 1924, age 58 years, 5 months and 4 days. A birthright Quaker, his life was always marked with that honest and simple sincerely so characteristic of the early Friends. On July 3, 1887, he was united in marriage to Nina J. Harvey, to whom were born eleven children, nine of them still living. Coming to Oklahoma at the opening of the Strip, he secured a farm one mile south of Cherokee, where he made his home until after the death of his wife, June 8, 1907. He afterwards removed to his farm near Covington, where be made his home the rest of his life. July 31, 1913, at Friends Wood, Texas, he was married to Mrs. Amy Overacker. Always a loving husband and father, a good provider for his family, and a friend in the true sense of the word to all his neighbors, his place will never be filled in this world, but the good he has done will live after him. The precious memory of him will be with his loved ones as long as life remains. He leaves to mourn his departure, his wife, five sons, four daughters, two stepdaughters, fourteen grandchildren, and many other relatives, and as many friends as was his privilege to meet, for he was enemy to no man. The children are : Mrs. Myrl Miller of Aline; Mrs. Mae Andrews of Covington; Mrs. Mabel Nolder of El Reno; Harvey of Douglas; Mrs. Aillen Hubbard of Enid; Harold of Douglas; Conrad of Douglas; Norman of Douglas; Leonard of Lenora. The step-children are Mrs. Elva Duplantis of Houston, Texas; and Mrs. Orpha Manuel of Galveston, Texas. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Garfield County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/garfield/garfield.html
