Mr. Stratton came with his parents to New York City in 1869, a boy of 15 years. The family then went to Macoupin County Illinois near the town of Carlinville. On March 11, 1877 he was united in marriage to Amanda C. Dunn at Carlinville, and to this union six children were born. Few married couples are permitted the privilege of celebrating 77 years of married life, which these good people lived to see. Mr. and Mrs. Stratton came from Illinois with their family in 1906 and bought their farm north of Hayward, where they have lived continuously these 48 years. Mr. Stratton had been in ill health many years and for the past five years was confined to his bed. His health prevented him from taking an active part in community life, never-the-less he was generous and kind, and financially and morally contributed to all worthy causes and to the church in his community he was very generous. In his youth he was a member of the Church of England, his Christian faith was demonstrated in the life he lived. He spent much time in reading and concentration and was mentally alert until the end. He is survived by his aged wife, Mrs. Amanda Stratton, three sons, Charles O. Stratton, Girard, Ill, William A. Stratton of the home, and Raymond Stratton, Hayward; one daughter, Mrs. Ida M. Dunn, Fairmont; also ten grandchildren; 14 great grand children, and one great-great grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, Lloyd Stratton who died at Sanger, California and Earnest Stratton who died as a child at Girard, Illinois. He was the last member of a family of ten. FUNERAL SERVICES HELD SUNDAY FOR JABEZ STRATTON: Funeral services for Jabez Stratton were held Sunday afternoon at the Evangelical United Brethren Church in Hayward with Rev. Roy E. Trent, Lost Creek, officiating. Burial was in the Hayward cemetery. Stratton, pioneer Garfield County resident, died Wednesday at his home east of Covington. He was 98. He was born in England in 1855. He later came to the United States and settled at Carlinville, Illinois where he was married in March 1877 to Amanda Kay (Catherine) Dunn. In 1906 the couple moved to a farm east of Covington, OK and lived there since. Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, William Aret of the home; Raymond Stratton, Hayward; Charles Stratton, Girard, Ill; one daughter, Mrs. Ida Dunn, Fairmont; 10 grandchildren,14 great grand children and one great great grandchild. Two sons preceded him in death.
