All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ENID NEWS & EAGLE 25 Feb 2002 EUGENE RAY THYS FAIRVIEW ­ The funeral for Eugene Ray Thys, 87, will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Fairview Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Jeff Manuel will officiate. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery. Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. He was born July 22, 1914, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Octave and Bessie Howell Thys and died Saturday, Feb. 23, 2002 at Fairview Hospital. As a young boy he moved with family to Fairview. He graduated from Fairview High School, then followed the harvest. He then worked at a parts store in Woodward, later becoming manager. On May 15, 1936, he married Maxine Custer at Cherokee. They moved several times, following the parts business. In 1938, they moved to Alva and in 1940 to Bartlesville. He entered the Navy in 1943, serving during World War II. He received an honorable discharge in 1945 and returned to Bartlesville. In 1948, the family moved to Tulsa, then to Muskogee in 1955. After retiring from Alemite Sales, he started a parts business out of his home, G&R Supply, retiring in 1992. He was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church at Muskogee, American Legion and Bassmasters Club. He was a bowler and once won the Oklahoma State Singles Championship. They returned to Fairview in 1997 and lived at Fairview Fellowship Home. Surviving are two sons, Jay of Ada and Donald of Springfield, Colo.; one sister, Virginia Halstead of Enid; five grandchildren; and 11 great- grandchildren.
