All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== ENID NEWS & EAGLE 24 Feb 2002 WALTER UNRUH (PHOTO) LAHOMA ­ a MEMORIAL SERVICE FOR Walter Unruh, 86, will be 11 a.m. Tuesday in New Hopedale Mennonite Church at Meno. The Revs. Larry Brashear, Monty L. Fey and Debbie Schmidt will officiate. A graveside service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Karoma Cemetery at Goltry. Visitation will be 7 p.m. Monday at Ladusau-Evans Funeral Home Chapel, Enid. He was born March 8, 1915, in Meno to Jacob and Rachel Jantz Unruh and died Thursday, Feb. 21, 2002, at The Methodist Home of Enid. He graduated from high school at Oklahoma Bible Academy and attended Phillips University Bethel Cottage and Northwestern University where he graduated. He earned a master’s of education degree from Phillips University. He married Thelma Pekrul of Goltry on Aug. 27, 1936. He was a farmer and taught school in rural Major County, in Goltry, Lahoma and Hunter. He taught school, coached sports and was principal and superintendent of schools in Waukomis. He retired from Emerson Junior High School, Enid, where he worked as a counselor in 1982. He was a life-time member of New Hopedale Mennonite Church in Meno. Surviving are two daughter, Bonnie Fey and Debbie Schmidt, both of Newton, Kan.; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, one sister and two brothers.
