Witten in this city. Funeral services were held at 4 o'clock Wednesday p.m. at the First Presbyterian church with Dr. W. T. Reynolds, the pastor, officiating. Interment was in Mt. Olivet cemetery. Mrs. Callaway was the widow of the pioneer, the late Dr. James R. Callaway, who died in 1928, after many years of service in this section as a physician. The couple had celebrated their golden wedding anniversary two years before the doctor's death. Relatives of Mark Twain Mrs. Callaway was a distant relative of Mark Twain (Samuel L. Clemens) and was born in Neosho, Mo., in 1850. Dr. Callaway was a Texan, a native of Decatur, but came to the valley in the earlier days, after the couple were married at Lonoke, Texas. "Grandma" Callaway, as she has been known for years among friends, had not been bedfast and the end came unexpectedly. Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. Frank Armstrong of Spokane, Wash., Mrs. Paul Ford of Billings, Okla., Mrs. Witten: wife of Postmaster Earl W. Witten and Mrs. W. W. Howerton of Pauls Valley and a son, Dr. John R. Callaway of this city, and a number of grandchildren and other relatives.
