Jimmie Ruth was born in Stratford, Oklahoma on January 12, 1925. She first attended Stevens College in Columbia, Missouri, before transferring to the University of Oklahoma, where she met her future husband, Robert E. Cobb, on a blind date. To seal the deal, Bob told Jimmie, who loved dancing, that he was an enthusiastic dancer. She subsequently discovered that he would only dance decades later at his granddaughter's wedding. They were married on January 20, 1946 in Norman, Oklahoma and the joy of th eir life, daughter Sharon Lee, arrived on October 16, 1946. Jimmie and Bob raised Sharon Lee in Garden City, Kansas, their beloved hometown of 50 years, where Jimmie was a member of the Board of St. Catherine's Hospital, a hospice volunteer, and a longtime, active member of the Community Church. She also went back to school and received her bachelor's degree from St. Mary's of the Plains College in Dodge City in 1982. She also found time to act in community theatre and enjoy golf, gardening and zipping a round town in her Mazda RX-7. In 1999, Jimmie and Bob moved to Upland, California to be near their daughter and son-in-law, Lynn Henish and grandchildren, Ross Beeley and Angela Beeley-Gergovich and her husband, Colby. Jimmie quickly found friends and work she enjoyed as a San Antonio Community Hospital volunteer and an active member of the Claremont United Church of Christ. She was living in California to welcome her great-granddaughters, Ava Gergovich and Ruby Gergovich, to this world. She was an invol ved great-grandma, picking Ava up from preschool and taking her to get a pink donut nearly every time she did. No two girls could be more loved. Jimmie loved to read, discuss and learn. She made the most heavenly cheese grits and wore elegant outfits topped with her trademark jewelry. She was a trusted confidante and counselor to many, a wonderful listener who truly found people, in both struggle and triumph, facinating. JImmie was so many things to so many people: an adored wife, mother, "Grams," great-grandma, aunt, sister and to people of all ages, a friend. A celebration of Jimmie's life will take place at the Claremont United Church of Christ on Saturday, December 23, 2006 at5 10 a.m. To remember Jimmie, in lieu of flowers, please send contributions to a memorial fund in her name to Claremont United Church of Christ, 233 W. Harrison Avenue, Claremont, CA 91711. Cucamonga Mortuary entrusted with arrangements.
