"Midland - Memorial services for Coy Joe "C. J.'" Giles, 60, Midland, will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Ellis Chapel with Ron Wesley and Ben Condray, officiating. "Arrangements are by Ellis Funeral Directors. "Mr. Giles died Monday, January 14, 1991, at his home. "He was born August 9, 1930, in Brady, Oklahoma, and was raised in Borger where he graduated from high school, and attended S.M.U. for two years. "He enlisted in the Navy and served two years before entering the Army. He served in Vietnam and retired after 13 years. He then went into real estate in New Mexico and in 1975 he moved to Midland and became an independent oil operator. He started BLG Petroleum and was vice president of the company. He was a member of the Southside Lions Club and an avid golfer. "He was a former policeman with the Odessa Police Department and a member of Alamo Heights Baptist Church. "Survivors include his wife, Lianne Midkiff Giles of Midland; two sons, Robert Scott Giles of Roswell, N.M.; and Brandon Hunter Giles of Midland; one sister, Ruby Mongold; one grandchild; and several nieces and nephews." From "Hobbs Daily News Sun", Hobbs, New Mexico, dated January 12, 1941: "Funeral services for James L. "Dad" Giles, 77 year old veteran newspaper carrier, will be held at the Church of Christ at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon. L. E. Carpenter, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in the North cemetery, under the direction of Carpenter Funeral Home. "Pall-bearers will be "Dad" Davis, Edgar Davis, W. T. Edwards, Charles Yates, L. A. Garrett and R. W. Woodard."
